A MEMBER of the Rotary Club of Elstree & Borehamwood has received the highest honour for service to the group.

David Clout received the Paul Harris Fellowship last month — an award which is given to a person who has donated exceptional service to the Rotary club.

A Rotary club is for business and professional people who come together through weekly meetings and social events.

Mr Clout joined the group in 1996 after teaching at Nicholas Hawksmoor School, in Borehamwood, for 25 years as the head of physics.

He said: "I have worked as the county secretary of the teachers' union, The Association of Teachers and Lecturers, for 22 years in a part-time capacity.

"This reduction to part-time work gave me the opportunity to join the Rotary club and I hope I have contributed to both the life of the club and the community.

"I have had the pleasure of maintaining the club's links with our local schools and I have had the pleasure of meeting students who I taught when their own children receive rotary awards so I have been enriched by having time to put some service into the club.

"The fellowship of the club is very important as it binds us together as a team and, working together, we get a great deal done. I want to thank the club for letting me be part of a premiership team."

The club meets in the Premier Travel Inn, Elstree Way, Borehamwood once a week. To join call 01923 854403.
